Today is a special one for us. Daily Overview was inspired by a concept known as the Overview Effect – the cognitive shift astronauts experience when they see Earth from space. A moment of perspective where you realize you’re part of something bigger, and the planet’s interconnectivity reveals itself. We hope our work gives you glimpses of that feeling throughout the year.
Maybe if we all felt that more often, we’d act with more care. Maybe we’d build a future that reflects the beauty of this place.
There may be no purer way to feel it than through the perspective of a spacewalk. NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik captured this footage on October 20, 2017. Following his work on the exterior of the International Space Station, he reflected: “Sometimes on a spacewalk, you just have to take a moment to enjoy the beauty of our planet.”
Happy Earth Day.
