Chimney Rock, North Carolina, was overwhelmed by flooding in the wake of Hurricane Helene, and has been left in a “post-apocalyptic” state, according to local reports. The Broad River, which runs through the town, was already at flood levels before Helene dropped more than a foot of rain in the area last Friday.
Floodwaters destroyed a majority of homes and businesses belonging to the town’s 140 residents, washing a massive field of debris into nearby Lake Lure (seen below). For a sense of scale, several boats that are roughly 20 feet long can be seen among the debris.
