Timelapse of the construction of the new Sydney Fish Market at Blackwattle Bay in Sydney, Australia. Designed by Danish architecture firm 3XN, the waterfront complex replaces the original market, which operated on the site for more than 50 years.
The new structure is defined by a sweeping, wave-inspired roof stretching nearly 200 meters in length and lined with hundreds of solar panels. Built along the harbor’s edge, the facility includes commercial wharves where fishing vessels unload their catch, expanded auction halls, restaurants, and public gathering spaces. The market is expected to welcome more than six million visitors annually, making it one of the largest seafood markets in the Southern Hemisphere.
