Agricultural development has greened the coastline of northern Peru, made possible by a decades-long irrigation project. The Chavimochic Special Project, initiated in the 1960s, extends over much of the La Libertad Region to irrigate 556 square miles (1,440 square kilometers) of farmland, nearly half of which was gained from desert. Numerous export crops, like asparagus and artichokes, are grown here.Click the image below to watch a Timelapse video on Instagram.
