The city of Chongqing, China, has quadrupled in size since 1990, its population surging from 2.5 million to nearly 10 million. Located at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, its urban core has steadily sprawled outward across folds of mountain ranges and valleys. The larger Chongqing Metropolis is China’s most populous municipality, with about 32 million people living across its 26 districts, eight counties and four autonomous counties.
