Venezuela Earthquakes
Two powerful earthquakes struck northern Venezuela yesterday evening at 6:00pm local time. These images show four of the most affected areas:
• Caracas — the capital and largest city, where buildings were damaged and rescue efforts are underway:
• Maiquetía — home to Venezuela’s main international airport, where parts of the ceiling collapsed and flights were suspended:
• Caraballeda — a coastal community in La Guaira state, one of the areas reported to be hardest hit.
• Morón — a coastal city west of Caracas near the epicenter of the quakes:
So far, authorities have reported at least 164 deaths and nearly 1,000 injuries, with rescue efforts ongoing across the region.
