Niscemi Landslide
A landslide in Niscemi, Sicily has left a part of the historic hilltop town dangling on a cliff. Rows of homes, parked cars, and once-quiet streets are now suspended above a newly formed scar in the earth.
After days of heavy rain, the ground gave way without warning, forcing more than 1,500 residents to evacuate as emergency crews work to secure what remains. In recent years, increasingly severe storms across southern Italy have turned once-rare events like this into a growing and unpredictable threat.
